Christians know the answer to this question. The good news is eternal salvation in Jesus Christ. But lost people don’t always get it. Many, perhaps most, of them don’t even understand the question. If they did they would jump at the simple offer of salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

A good place to start is where they are.

So how do people who don’t understand their own need for salvation find the good news of Jesus Christ? A good place to start is where they are.

find out what good news means to them.

The beauty of what Christ has done for us, is that it is all-encompassing. To the slave it is freedom, to the oppressed it is justice, to the sick it is divine healing, to the weak it is supernatural help. Through the Holy Spirit we receive a deposit on each of these aspects of salvation until the day we enter heaven and obtain it in full.

This is why we don’t have to be afraid to put ourselves in the shoes of those we are trying to reach, to understand their heartfelt needs. The good news, which offers them forgiveness from their sins and eternal life in Jesus Christ, might first appeal to them for other, less obvious reasons.

This is why Jesus took the time to become one of us, to be tempted in every way that we are tempted. He wanted to experience the fullness of our desperate need in order that we might experience the fullness of his gracious salvation.

How many of us came to Christ after receiving from him a gift of love, healing, comfort, peace; only to find out later that He was actually offering to us much in the gift of salvation.

To offer the gift of salvation to the people you are seeking to reach, find out what good news means to them. Walking in their shoes is a Christ-like thing to do, and it just might a yield Christ-like result.
